Construction Work Regulated?

A contractor is any person or entity that, for compensation, undertakes or offers to construct, alter, repair, improve, move, demolish, or otherwise modify any building, highway, road, railroad, excavation, structure, development, or other improvement. This includes performing any portion of such work, as well as erecting scaffolding or related structures connected to the project. The term "contractor" also includes subcontractors and specialty contractors.

Requirements?

Individual applicants must demonstrate at least four (4) years of experience within the ten (10) years immediately preceding the application date. This experience must have been gained as a contractor, foreman, or supervising employee in the specific trade or classification for which licensure is sought.

Corporations, partnerships, and joint ventures must qualify through a Responsible Managing Employee (RME) who meets the required experience qualifications.

Applicants must pass a two-part examination consisting of:
• Part I – Law
• Part II – Trade/Subject Matter

The examination fee is $50 per part. A study guide for the Part I Law Examination is available for $75. A minimum score of 75% is required to pass each examination.

All contractor licenses expire annually on June 30.

A renewal application must be made upon forms prescribed by the Board. Failure to apply for renewal on or before June 30th of each year shall automatically void a license and would require a licensee to submit an original application.

Reciprocal Agreements

Guam does not have reciprocity agreements with any other states.
